Apprenticeships

1 message · last activity 9/16/2011

Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read this. I honestly am not sure how to begin... I guess I will start from the beginning, I am currently living in Oregon... Which is loaded with tattoo schools who shoot students in and out of the doors, from what I can tell to whomever has the money. This is not at all what I want, I want a tattoo apprenticeship... But I do not believe that is so easy here... Only options are the schools. In any case, I am completely willing to relocate for an apprenticeship the only problem is how do start finding an apprenticeship with out going in and actually talking with the artists, how do I grab their attention from so far away?? What I mean by far away is that my husband, if he had to relocate, would prefer Minnesota where he is from... What I am hoping from any of you is advice on how to get started, my only thoughts are A) Make a lot of copies of my portfolio and start mailing them off to whom I hope is a Great Tattoo artist or B) Try to find them on social sites and spread my art that way... I am also not sure how this is to work, as from what I've read and seen it's more who you know that gets you the apprenticeship and not talent... Which in all honesty makes since because, for the most part, art can be taught to most, and personality unfortunately is not so easily taught. I am rambling sorry, Ok so anyway as I said... My hopes in posting this is for some good sound advice on finding an apprenticeship. Thanks again for your time! and if you own a shop in or near minnesotta.... haha just saying... :)
