I was working a formal apprenticeship under a very well known artist. I was tattooing with minimum/no supervision and I was developing a strong clientele base. I would say I was about 85%-90% done with my apprenticeship. Unfortunately I had to leave because of a conflict with another person in the shop (NOT for any tattoo related problems) but I was not formally released as a tattoo artist. I have a strong artistic background, my clients are very happy with their tattoos, I have people seeking me out for more, and I have my universal precaution certificate, and body artist license.
I understand the advantages of continuing my education in a professional shop where I can learn from the artists I would work with. However, I haven’t been able to find another shop to continue. I would like to keep working until I find another shop so I can keep developing my skills.
My question is, what is your opinion about my opening a licensed body art establishment procedure area in my own home? I have researched the requirements in Colorado for opening a body artist establishment and it is in the proper zone. With a business license, application, and a few constructional changes, it looks like I can be up and running legally in the state of Colorado.

make dam sure your house is zoned for commercial use.also check with your local health department, and get there requirements. certain countys in colorado will not accept the kettle clave, other countys require a certified pathogens course, cpr, and first aid certificates.if you meet all zoning laws and county and city ordinances and obtain proper license (if required) and you do the set up proper then you are a buisness and no one can argue that fact and point.the work you produce and put out will make you or break you. best of luck.
Working from home and learning from home are two different things. Lets see some of your artwork, then we can give you better advice...
